Community outreach is an valuable part of the GEMS experience. GEMS girls know the importance of their leadership in the school and the community. We encourage the girls to reach out to others and share their experiences. Each year, we try to take the girls to a lower-income daycare center to play with and read to the younger children, as well as to teach the school-age children about relational aggression. Each time we schedule a trip the children get very excited for the girls to come! All of the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade GEMS girls have the opportunity to go on a field trip to the daycare and most want to keep going back.
How are your GEMS girls reaching out? Send us pictures of your community outreach to post on our GEMS site.
