Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Depression and Stress: What To Do

January 27th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Monthly Discussion Topics

Mrs. Berkovitz, our school’s psychologist, and Ms. Santoriella, a licensed counselor, came in to speak with the 7th grade GEMS girls about some serious issues. Mrs. Berkovitz talked about stress and how it can affect a person’s physical and emotional well being. She did an excellent exercise with the girls to help them relax and reduce their stress. Here are some helpful websites to visit.

    Hi Anonymous,
Stay strong and find people to support you, girl. You are not alone and there are people who have been where you and are willing to help! Don’t give up. I applaud you for stopping cutting and am so glad you are not suicidal. I hope that you have checked out some of the links on our website having to do with depression and self-harm. If you need more help please feel free to contact us directly through our email address, or you can call a 24-hour local helpline that is anonymous at 1-440-953-8255 or 1-440-357-7300. I really agree with what Mrs. Meek says. You need to find someone to help you with what you are going through. Possibly an adult but if not an adult then maybe a really good friend or someone who is a little older but not yet an adult. We all get sad and depressed at one time or another and there is no need for self-harm because your just putting your life on the line when you should just be trying to get help. Mrs. Meek gave you numbers for help and I would say get help from them also because I know they will. I have thought of self-harm once before because I was going through so much and I could not handle it but I talked to my friends about it and they helped more then self-harm would have. Just talk about stuff do not keep it to yourself. Its not good to do that. Please just stay strong, we here all care!
