Girls Educated and Motivated to Succeed (GEMS) is a three year after school program created for girls ages 11-15 by Nancy Ball and Lauren Meek. Our mission is to raise awareness of relational aggression behaviors and self-esteem issues which are common among adolescent girls and provide the skills necessary to face life’s challenges so that they may be healthy, successful 21st century women. Our motto is “No matter the color, shape or size, a true GEM’s beauty comes from inside.” We have been presenters at the National Conference on Girl Bullying and Other Forms of Relational Aggression twice. In addition, we presented at the OCEA Conference in Cincinnati in October 2009. The GEMS program was created during the summer of 2006 for our St. Greg’s girls and has now blossomed into what it is today! We are very excited to include Newbury High School and John Paul II School in Canada as part of our GEMS community.
